Hey super teachers! Here you have a new educational resource for your science classes. It is important to teach the plant nutrition process when you are a Science teacher. Here you can find a complete bundle with theory explanations and some worksheet to practice the content.

As we all know, plants get nutrients and use them to grow. They need to carry out two main functions: photosynthesis and respiration.

What is photosynthesis? Explanation for kids

Photosynthesis is a process in which plants make their own nutrients, so they can develop and grow. To carry out photosynthesis plants need: sunlight, carbon dioxide, water, minerals and chlorophyll.

Plants transform water, sunlight and carbon dioxide into oxygen. Plants absorve minerals and water from soil through the roots. This mix is known as raw sap. Raw sap travels from the roots to the rest of the plant, until the leaves. Leaves absorve carbon dioxide through stomas and here it starts the photosynthesis main process.

The photosynthesis main process take place in the leaves. In the plant cell there are chloroplasts (which have a pigment called chlorophyll) and they can absorve the sunlight. The plant uses the raw sap, the sunlight and the carbon dioxide to carry out photosynthesis, a process in which raw sap transforms into elaborated sap. Then, the elaborated sap travels to the rest of the plant through liberian vessels. Eventually, the plant releases oxygen. This process only takes place during the day.

How do plants breathe? Plants respiration explanation for kids

Respiration takes place during day and night, in contrast to photosynthesis process. The reason is because plants need energy 24 hours a day. During the respiration process, plants absorve oxygen from the air. Then, they transform oxygen and nutrients into energy. Eventually, plants release carbon dioxide and water vapour into the air.

At the end of this post, you will find a link to download a PDF file with the bundle. It is, as always, a free resource with high quality pictures. In this bundle you will also find the following worksheet for labelling:
