Let’s see the principles or characteristics of Dalton’s atomic theory.

Dalton Atomic Theory

All known matter is made of atoms.

The first principle of John Dalton’s atomic theory reminds us that everything around us is made up of atoms. They are the simplest elements of matter.

Atoms are indivisible and also indestructible.

Atoms were chemically indestructible. Scientific advances have discovered that atoms can be broken and destroyed, thereby generating a large amount of energy.

All atoms belonging to the same element are identical.

For a particular element, Dalton says that all its atoms are equal. This means that each one of them has the same mass and the same characteristics as the rest.

Atoms of different elements have different masses and properties.

Each element has atoms of different characteristics and masses.

Compounds are made up of a combination of two or more different types of atoms.

A given compound always has the same types of atoms combined and in the same proportions. These combinations of atoms are called molecules.

A chemical reaction is equivalent to a rearrangement of atoms.

Chemical reactions resulted from a union, separation, or rearrangement of a certain number or amount of atoms.
